If a Wide-Area Network does not
exactly meet your needs you want to consider ...
Wide-Area Networks (WAN)
AI Installation Issues Over a Wide-Area
Network .....
BRIEF: A normal Animal Intelligence
installation is comprised of workstations and a server in a single clinic.
However, some of the larger clinics we work with have more than one location,
and want the same data available to all of their locations. With
the advent of low-cost Internet connections this is now economically possible.
This document describes some of the issues involved.
Animal Intelligence Wide-Area Network
Printer Set Up .....
BRIEF: Using Animal Intelligence®
(AI) in a wide-area network presents special problems for printer setup.
This document describes the correct procedure for setting up printers in
a Windows NT Terminal Server Edition, Windows 2000 Server/terminal services
mode, or Citrix MetaFrame environment (collectively, these are called “terminal
servers”).
Wide-Area Network Installation Checklist
and Installation Guide .....
BRIEF: This document lists the steps
required to successfully implement a wide-area network installation of
Animal Intelligence. In this document, “host” means the location
where the server resides. “Remote” is a remote location.
Note that we do not support use of remote networking
for WAN implementations. Instead, use terminal services to run AI
on the terminal server at the host location.
The breakdown by network vendor and end-user
shown below is only a suggestion. Some users may want to do some
of the vendor’s work, and some users may ask the vendor to perform some
of the tasks listed under “end user.” These details are between the
AI end user and the network vendor.
Wide-Area Access Strategies for
Animal Intelligence .....
BRIEF: Wide-area access to Animal
Intelligence has appeal for many reasons. Some want to work from
home. Others go on the road and want to access AI from their remote
offices. Yet others want to allow selected people outside their clinics
to access their AI data files to browse medical records or view other information.
This paper discusses the issues involved, and offers several different
solutions. Since the strategies we will discuss here involve users
running a copy of AI from a remote site, I will also use the generic term
remote control in this document.
Note that this document does not discuss a “remote
version” of Animal Intelligence. We do have the ability to allow
users to run AI away from the office via a laptop computer while disconnected
from a telephone or Internet link back to the main AI database, but that
is a separate topic.
If you find after reading this that you want
to pursue a wide-area access strategy for your Animal Intelligence installation,
please contact our client services department. They will put you
in touch with the correct person to best help you.
