Installing the Advantage Database Server (ADS) .....

BRIEF: This
document details step by step instructions for installing and
configuring the Advantage Database Server (ADS) application on the
server. These instructions can be used for the initial
installation on your first server or in conjunction with replacing your
existing server with a new server.
Animal Intelligence™ and Microsoft®
Windows® XP .....
BRIEF: Microsoft’s newest Windows
operating system, version XP Professional, works well with Animal Intelligence.
There is only one change that needs to be made. The scroll bars and
title bars in XP are larger than with previous versions; this causes some
Animal Intelligence forms to resize in an unattractive manner. By
reducing the width of these Windows elements, AI runs as before.
Installing Animal Intelligence and
its Database .....
BRIEF: Animal Intelligence (AI),
Animal Intelligence Software, Inc’s flagship Windows application, and the
Advantage Database Server (ADS) by Extended Systems, Inc. are easy to install,
but require that certain procedures are followed to ensure the best operation.
This document describes these steps, from network protocol considerations
through final installation of the tested data files on the database server.
We recommend that you read this document in its entirety before you begin
the installation procedure.
This document is intended for use by experienced
network personnel.
These instructions are written assuming that Microsoft
Windows NT or 2000 is employed as the network operating system. We
make no specific recommendation of one network operating system over another;
ADS runs equally well under either Windows NT, 2000, or NetWare.
If Novell NetWare is used, you will have to adjust the procedures slightly.
The target workstation platform for AI is Microsoft Windows 95 or 98 although
it works equally well on Windows2000 Professional.
Installing the AI Fax Driver in
Windows2000 Professional .....
BRIEF: This document applies to Animal Intelligence®
version 2.1, and Microsoft® Windows 2000 Professional.
Windows 2000 uses a fundamentally different printer driver setup than
previous versions of the Windows operating system. Because of this,
you must install the AI fax printer driver manually. This paper describes
how to do so.
Installing the Fax Server in Animal
Intelligence .....
BRIEF: Animal Intelligence offers a simple-to-use FAX
server that makes it easy for any workstation on your network to “print”
any report to FAX. Individual workstations do not have to have a
fax modem installed; rather, one or more workstations are designated as
“fax servers” that wait for faxes to be generated by the rest of the workstations
and then send them out.
This document describes how to set up and use the fax server, and how
to install and use the fax printer driver on each workstation.
Note that these instructions differ significantly from the instructions
for setting up the fax capabilities of Animal Intelligence versions prior
to 2.0.
Invalid Date/Time Format Error .....
BRIEF: Recently we have noted that some computers
usually running Windows XP Professional have a spurious occurrence of an error
reported as ‘Invalid Date/Time format’. This document explains some the details associated with it and recommended corrective action.
The Advantage Data Server - A Primer
.....
BRIEF: The Advantage Database Server
is the database used by Animal Intelligence, AIS’ flagship Windows product.
This document briefly describes what it is, how it works, and in general
how it is configured.
Upgrading the Advantage User Option
- Windows NT .....
BRIEF: This document describes in
detail the process for increasing the user count of an existing AI installation
using the Advantage Data Server. Prior to accomplishing this, you
will need to contact Animal Intelligence Software, Inc. to obtain
the codes necessary for the additional users.
Adding a New Workstation to your
AI Network .....
BRIEF: These instructions assume
that additional workstations are being added to an existing and functional
network currently using Animal Intelligence. They will walk you step-by-step
through the process.
